Exposition Aimé Césaire, Lam, Picasso «Nous nous sommes trouvés»

As part of the centennial celebration of the birth of Aimé Césaire, the Clément Foundation, in partnership with the Regional Council of Martinique and with the support of the Réunion des musées nationaux-Grand Palais, presented the Aimé Césaire, Lam, Picasso “We found ourselves” exhibition from 8 December 2013 to 2 March 2014 at Habitation Clément.

Organised in in Paris by the Réunion des musées nationaux in spring 2011, the exhibition was enriched with works held in Martinique. It is of an unprecedented scale for the island and highlights the intellectual and artistic depth of exchange between these three men. Featuring 60 pieces, the exhibition included an oil painting by Picasso, ten paintings by Lam, Césaire’s "Corps perdu” (Lost Body) collection illustrated with engravings by Picasso, the "Annunciation" composed of engravings by Lam and poems by Césaire, as well as a section evoking Césaire, Lam, and Picasso’s shared interest for African masks.
